MEC/HRG identify project success

North Liberty, Iowa - (May 1, 2007) - McClure Engineering Company (MEC) of North Liberty, Iowa recently received unanimous approval from the City of North Liberty for Highway 965 Improvement project.

The project is a joint effort for MEC and the Howard R. Green Company (HRG) to develop a concept plan and cost opinions for one of the fastest growing corridors in the state.  The study will begin June 2007 and complete November of 2007.

The study will involve coordination between the City of North Liberty and their appointed Hwy 965 Task Force, the City of Coralville, the regional transportation planner of Johnson County Council of Governments, local land owners, businesses and the general public.  The study will provide a Comprehensive Plan for the Highway 965 corridor and establish not only the technical needs of the corridor but also the "identity" for each community along this gateway between the Cities of North Liberty and Coralville.

"This area is rapidly changing from rural to urban and new arterial, collector, and local streets are intersecting with 965 and changing the flow of traffic," says Leland Belding, III, Transportation Engineer for MEC. "New traffic signals and intersection modifications are needed to provide the side streets with dedicated time to access or cross 965 yet the 965 corridor level of service needs to be maintained."

The original design of Hwy 965 was that of a state rural highway with limited access.  Based on the knowledge of the corridor and the discussions with community leaders and task force members, MEC and HRG have identified the five factors that are critical to the success of this project: traffic capacity to meet long term needs, engaging the community, community image and identity, funding and stormwater management.

Building Strong Communities since 1956, MEC offers civil engineering and consulting services, including water environment, transportation, aviation, land development, bio-fuels, surveying/mapping, funding and design/building services.

The company is headquartered in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and currently has locations in Johnston, Iowa, and North Liberty, Iowa as well as Casa Grande, Arizona and Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.
